In my view not many racing games really warrant remasters. Sequels just one up them in content and visuals often leaving you with limited reasons to go back. Ridge 4 was never really surpassed in the series in terms of music, atmosphere and playability of the Grand Prix mode. Such a unique style.. Ridge Racer and R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 are the two best racing games on the Playstation. Ridge Racer is undoubtedly my favorite because of what it means to me, but R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 is the better of the two for others that do not have the pre-existing biases that I have. Luckily for anyone that picks up a complete physical copy of R4.

Practically, "Ridge Racer Type 4" marks a great evolution of the Ridge Racer series, picking up the best aspects of earlier RR games and perfecting them. Of course, like its predecessors, Type 4 is more of an arcade racing game rather than a realistic experience like "Gran Turismo", and that´s what always made the series so enjoyable in the first place.. As the Ridge Racer series evolved over the PlayStation's life, so did the graphic and gameplay quality. What remained was the original's arcade playability. Considering the other racers out there.
