By 1945, individuals were only allowed 24 coupons, making a scarf a significant investment. The most recognizable scarves were produced by the London textile manufacturer Jacqmar. The scarves continued to enjoy popularity after the war—they were issued to commemorate the 1948 London Olympics and the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

The arrow shape represents the 'Speedbird' plane and was the company logo. I would love to find out who designed the scarf. Hardy Amies designed uniforms for BA 3 times in their history but I imagine the scarf designer was chosen by Jacqmar. I've found a pink, and blue version online, both of which are shades of, rather than a mix like this one.. A recent great book on vintage scarves ,a coffee table book edition with large images and great photography of original vintage scarves.
